AIIMS for TS to Come Up at Bibinagar Campus of NIMS

New India Express  Jan 21, 2015

HYDERABAD:  It is official. As reported in these coloumns in July last, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will come up at the Bibinagar campus of the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Nalgonda district.

As per the AP Reorganisation Act, the Centre has allotted an AIIMS to Telangana as well as AP. The Union government has recently asked the Telangana government to identify land for the same and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday zeroed in on the upcoming NIMS facility at Bibinagar for it.

“It is the best place for setting up AIIMS,” Rao said after inspecting the NIMS campus at Bibinagar and added that a proposal to this effect will be sent to the Centre soon. The NIMS facility is coming up on more than 150 acres at Bibinagar but to transform it into AIIMS, it would need another 50 acres at least. Before paying a visit to the NIMS campus at Bibinagar, Rao held a review meeting at the Secretariat and discussed the issue of setting up AIIMS in the State. Interestingly, Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister T Rajaiah was conspicuous by his absence at the meeting where it was decided to locate AIIMS at the Bibinagar campus of NIMS.

The Chief Minister left for Bibinagar soon after the meeting and Rajaiah, who was in Warangal, arrived at Bibinagar just about 15 minutes before Rao left for Hyderabad. AIIMS will be set up in nearly 200 acres initially and the State government also has plans to convert the same into a Health Smart City.

While reviewing the availability of land at Bibinagar and Kondamadugu, Rao said 400 acres was available but felt there was a need to acquire more land.

“As NIMS-Bibinagar is closer to Hyderabad and the Outer Ring Road and is also located on the Hyderabad-Warangal highway, the under-construction hospital is suitable for setting up AIIMS,” Rao reasoned and said the facility will be helpful for people of all the districts in Telangana.

WindStream Technologies Breaks Ground on 50,000 sq. ft. Manufacturing Facility in Hyderabad, India

SOURCE: WindStream Technologies, Inc.

SolarMills Expected to Be Available Q2 2015
NORTH VERNON, IN--(Marketwired - January 05, 2015) - WindStream Technologies announced today that it has broken ground on its 50,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility outside of Hyderabad, India. This new facility will be the Company's second manufacturing plant focused on building its proprietary SolarMill® products and designed to service the India and South Asia markets.
[VIDEO PROGRESS]: http://bit.ly/1vErAA4
The facility is being built by Sri Kiran Technologies, the landowner, as a "build to suit" lease agreement and will be ready to be occupied in March 2015. The ongoing operation will be funded through WSTI's newly formed $2 million dollar Joint Venture with West Coast Ventures/Deepan Group. WindStream expects to see the first SolarMill products available from this new factory in early Q2 2015 and will service the India market to start. With greater than 400 million people who live without grid supplied energy and the India government aggressively moving to provide electricity to rural India, the Company expects to see great demand for the SolarMill products.
"The India market is huge and the need for clean renewable energy is insatiable," said Dan Bates, President of WindStream. "As a result of Prime Minister Modi's recently announced initiative to add 1KW of power to over 400 million rooftops, our new product, the SM1-2P, which we had coincidentally labeled "A Kilowatt in a Box" looks to be the perfect solution for his initiative," added Bates. "As we looked at this market as a global opportunity, it became very clear to the Company that India may be the largest single market we have on our plate and the funded JV gives us the needed capital to rapidly execute on our India business plan."
The Company expects to produce a minimum of 5000 SolarMills in 2015 and see that number increase as process and procedures are refined and improved upon. The base price for the India-made SolarMill is yet to be established but without shipping, duties and logistics cost added, the product will compete or beat solar-only installations on a cost per watt basis. Using U.S. based pricing models and margins, the Company estimates that the first year of production could potentially realize $20 - $30 million dollars in revenue. This estimate is based on U.S. pricing and may differ from the final end price of the units manufactured and sold in India.
A driving factor behind the Company's decision to build the facility in India was not only to reduce cost, but to have a product that has an "India Made" certification allowing the SolarMill to benefit from generous Government Subsidies for renewable energy technologies. "WindStream already has significant sales traction and expressions of interest for the SolarMill products throughout the country and many of our customers are just waiting for a date that we will be able to provide them with the Indian product. I expect that within a few months after launching the facility and securing the needed certifications we will be sold out of product for 2015," said Venkat Kumar Tangirala, President of WindStream S. Asia.
About WindStream Technologies: Founded in 2008, WindStream Technologies, a public company (OTCQBWSTI), is headquartered in North Vernon, Indiana. WindStream Technologies was established to create low-cost hybrid, renewable energy solutions for urban, suburban, and on and off-grid environments. Made in the USA, its patented SolarMill® technology is a distributed energy solution, which produces continuous renewable energy for customers 24/7/365. The company's products are sold around the world. For more information please visit www.windstream-inc.com.

Making of the Hyderabad Metro Rail with National Geographic Channel

Metro rail goes on first automatic trial run - The Hindu

Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) project created a new technology record by successfully running a train in Automatic Train Operation (ATO) mode for the first time on Indian soil between Nagole and Mettuguda on Tuesday night.
The 8 km stretch will be the first operational line for the project and currently trial runs are on. Under ATO, a train operates on its own and self controls its movement, speed, performance etc., with automatic application of brakes without the intervention of train driver. The function of the ‘driver’ is only to press a button to close the doors at stations and it is a prelude to completely driverless mode which HMR Metro can upgrade any time it wants, disclosed its Managing Director N.V.S. Reddy on Wednesday.
HMR is the first Indian metro rail implementing the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system, the latest railway signalling system with the equipment being supplied by French company Thales, a pioneer in this technology globally. Most metros world over have shifted to CBTC, including the latest Delhi Metro line. It is a radio communication-based system controlling trains movement through continuous two-way digital communication between trains and trackside equipment. Simon Lee, a Hong Kong-based expert is supervising the signalling system build up here.
Six zones

The Operation Control Centre (OCC) in Uppal depot is the nerve centre for remote controlling and operation of the entire 72 km of the elevated project being taken across the three corridors of the twin cities, he pointed out.
The total metro rail system is divided into six zones, each controlled by a zone controller (equipment).
Each train transmits its identity, location, direction and speed to the respective zone controller which calculates safe distance between two trains, breaking distance and authorised train speed with automatic application of brakes in case of over speeding.
Other latest sub-systems like the Automatic Train Protection (ATP), Automatic Train Supervision (ATS), Vehicle on Board Controller, Data Communication System, Solid State Interlocking (SSI) and so on provide fail-safe protection mechanism against train collisions, speed regulation, programmed stopping, door control and other functions, he explained.
Automatic monitoring of train movement and performance remove any possibility of human error and prevent train collisions due to driver passing train beyond danger signal, which can happen in normal railway working. CBTC system facilitates running of trains with one-and-a-half minute (90 second) frequency with very high reliability. It has built in redundancies to take care of failure of any component, Mr. Reddy said.
HMR chief signalling & telecommunications engineer K. Laxman, chief engineer Md. Ziauddin and other senior engineers of L&TMRHL and Thales participated in the test run.
