Ground work on metro rail to start in January 2011

With the government signing the concession agreement with L&T Hyderabad Metro Rail Pvt. Ltd., the next step for the L&T will be to submit bank guarantee for Rs.360 crore as performance security to the government and achieve financial closure within six months.
Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd., on its part, has started pursing the government agencies and private individuals for land acquisition, widening or roads and identification of utilities for starting the ground works in January 2011. The concession agreement for the 71 km elevated metro rail project covering three high density traffic corridors – Miyapur-L.B. Nagar, JBS-Falaknuma and Nagole-Shilparamam- is for 35 years including five year construction period and 30 year operations period.
The estimated traffic demand is 15 lakh passengers a day in 2014 and 22 lakh passengers a day in 2024. The system would be designed for two minute frequency. The proposed fare structure is from Rs.8 to Rs.19 in 2014.
